About Us

The Healthcare Services Employees' Union (HSEU) is the union representing employees in the healthcare sector.

Her roots go a long way back to the 1960s when the public healthcare employees were represented by the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE). Following the corporatisation of the public hospitals from the late 1980s, the semi-house union Healthcare Corporation of Singapore Staff Union (HCSSU) was formed.

In 2005, the HCSSU and National University Hospital Employees' Union (NUHEU) decided to merge resulting in the formation of the Healthcare Services Employees' Union.

The merger is an important development for the future of the union. Becoming an industrial union has allowed HSEU to reach out to employees across all healthcare-related bodies and to consolidate resources to provide better service for all members.

With the merger, membership has doubled from 5,224 members in Apr 2005 to 11,000 in August 2007.

HSEU is committed to being a voice for the healthcare workers and to ensure that their concerns are addressed. The pay adjustments for healthcare nurses and professionals in 2007 was a result of this constant engagement of HSEU with the government and employers.

Moving ahead, HSEU will continue to promote the interests of her members with a focus in enhancing the employability of the more mature members.
