HSEU-NUH 'Helping Hands and Moving Hearts' 2011

In line with HSEU's focus on Community Health Management, HSEU-NUH Branch Committee tirelessly readied its volunteers for the Union and Management annual outreach event - “Helping Hands and Moving Hearts” held on 16 April. Both the National University Hospital and the HSEU-NUH Branch Union jointly organized the Health Talk event followed by the distribution of groceries to about 150 elderly and needy residents of Queenstown, Bukit Merah residential areas. This event was facilitated by the Queenstown Community Centre and supported by the NTUC FairPrice. More than 150 NUH staff and Union Members participated in the event held at the Queenstown community centre.

Many residents enjoyed the programme and were especially touched when volunteers carried and sent the goodie bags for the residents to their door-steps in spite of the pouring rain.

Ms Teo Lin Lee, the Vice-Chairman of the Queenstown Community Club has this to say, “This project met its objectives in reaching out to 145 elderly aged from 50-89 yrs old. The success was apparent when participants called back to the centre to voice their appreciation to the organisers (first time in history).”
