Overview

HSEU's roots date back to the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) days in the 1960s. In 1989, the Health Corporation of Singapore Staff Union (HCSSU) was founded to exclusively represent healthcare workers in the newly restructured hospitals. A merger between HCSSU and National University Hospital Employees’ Union (NUHEU) then took place in 2006, and HCSSU was then renamed to HSEU. Over the years, HSEU has expanded its scope of coverage beyond restructured hospitals, evolving from a semi-house union to an industrial union.

As an affiliate of National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), HSEU works closely with NTUC and other unions to collectively bring labour movements in Singapore forward. It also works closely with the hospitals to support Singapore's growth as Asia’s leading Medical Hub. In 2012, A Tripartite workgroup consisting of healthcare clusters, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and HSEU was formed to harness greater synergy to advance the healthcare sector by raising productivity and improving the wages of lower income employees, while protecting and safeguarding the interests of our members.

HSEU takes care of its members in a well-rounded aspect; Areas of work, leisure, finances, welfare and upgrading are all overseen by HSEU. More information of what HSEU offers can be found here.

Today, HSEU represents more than 45,000 members in the Healthcare industry.

HSEU Logo

The HSEU logo is represented by two health cross symbols. By joining and intersecting one another, it signifies the healthcare services and employees from all the various hospitals unifying as a big family. It further represents the transformation of the union into an industrial union which brings together employees from the healthcare sector under one union - the Healthcare Services Employees' Union.

The diagonal upright direction of the logo represents the growth of the union and the improvements in the quality of life for the employees and their families as well. Lastly, the colours used are bright and promising, which symbolises the bright future of HSEU, as well as the positive attitudes of the employees working hand in hand with each other within a happy and pleasant environment.
